The Challenge

McDermott is a premier, fully integrated provider of technology, engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry. For more than a century, customers have trusted McDermott to design and build end-to-end infrastructure and technology solutions to transport and transform oil and gas into the products the world needs today. Our proprietary technologies, integrated expertise and comprehensive solutions deliver certainty, innovation and added value to energy projects around the world. Customers rely on McDermott to deliver certainty to the most complex projects, from concept to commissioning. It is called the “One McDermott Way.” Operating in over 54 countries, McDermott’s locally focused and globally integrated resources include approximately 32,000 employees, a diversified fleet of specialty marine construction vessels and fabrication facilities around the world.

To maximise its worldwide talent pool and resources McDermott looked for a faster, more agile way of integrating crew, training, qualification and whereabouts information in real-time. Top of the agenda was replacing a time-consuming, manual process with an automated solution to combine numerous spreadsheets, databases and paper files into one single database available to all.

The Solution

After a thorough evaluation of the marketplace, McDermott selected Dynama’s workforce planning solution which is specifically designed to help organisations simplify the task of finding, deploying and managing appropriately skilled staff in a challenging marine environment.

The new software solution has consolidated McDermott’s in-house developed safety training database, a third party application for crewing, in addition to numerous spreadsheets, paper files and databases and brought together all relevant staff information into one place.

McDermott now uses Dynama to schedule 7,075 people across 11 primary vessels, plus a number of support vessels and 4 marine bases.

The Benefits

A series of significant benefits have been realised including:

Global scheduling – via a central repository with intelligence on staff
Cross-organisational collaboration – including crewing logistics, HR, Quality Health Safety Environment and Security (QHSES) departments
Managing client expectations – project managers can view and print career resumes, training and travel documents, both on and offshore to manage expectations
Blending of scheduling and training in a single platform – linked in the Management and Professional Staffing (MAPS) system
Time savings and widespread adoption – daily tasks made faster

Since introducing Dynama we can look-up crew members around the world and see their work history and where they working, then assign them to a special project or give them a new role based on their skills and experience.
